Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) is a public school district located in Calvert County, Maryland. It is governed by a six-member Board of Education, five of whom are elected by the public in non-partisan elections, and one student elected by the Calvert Student Council Association. The district currently has 25 schools and 15,292 students, with minority enrollment at 30%. The school system consists of 13 elementary schools, six middle schools and four high schools.
Nearly 50 percent of the county's overall operating budget is allocated to public school operations, infrastructure costs, and the other costs of schools' post-employment benefits. Additionally, the district includes the Calvert Rural School, a special education school, and the Career Technology Academy & (formerly known as Calvert Career Center), a vocational education center. The Superintendent of Schools is responsible for managing the Calvert County Public School System (article of the Education Code, secs.). The Prince Frederick campus of the College of Southern Maryland began when the Calvert County Community College was organized in 1980.
